Hôtel-Dieu des Hospices Civils de Beaune
Printed materials design & production
Client: Hospices Civils de Beaune
Printer: Imprimeur Simon
The Hôtel-Dieu was founded in 1443 as a hospital in Beaune, capital of Burgundy wine production. A charitable institution dedicated to caring for the sick, it remained in operation until 1971. Services for patients are now provided in modern hospital buildings.
Today it is a historical monument, a symbol of medical history that attracts over 400 000 visitors every year.
I was commissioned to redesign and revitalize the institution’s print communication assets. Working closely with the Hôtel-Dieu team in Beaune I oversaw the design and production process from the drawing board to the printing press.
Thank you to Sandrine Allard-Saint-Albin, site manager of the Hôtel-Dieu, for her trust with this project. Special thanks also to Mode 2, the curator of the 2025 “Imaginaires Kréatifs” project, for his vision and reaching out.
“The Hôtel-Dieu team is delighted with the result, which brilliantly highlights the historical research conducted since 2023. This new identity elevates our visitor engagement, with guests specifically noting the exceptional quality of the materials - from the paper selection to the custom inks.”

Typography & color palette
Patterns and typographic elements were developed taking inspiration from the building’s emblematic roof tiles. Custom pictograms help the institution’s 400 000 diverse visitors visualize and navigate information.
Graphic elements
I worked with an eco-friendly state-of-the-art local printing house to develop a custom semi-fluorescent Pantone ink specifically for the project. The resulting Safety Orange hue connects the building’s heritage to modern emergency care codes. It is now a unique part of the Hôtel-Dieu’s visual identity.
