For Hennessy (LVMH), I engineered a limited-edition coffee table book documenting their collaboration with tattoo artist Scott Campbell. My objective was to move beyond traditional editorial design and create a physical object that mirrors the technical and ritualistic nature of the tattooing process - blending raw materiality with luxury precision.
Anodized aluminium cover & binding
The cover consists of an anodized aluminum plate silkscreened with black paint, selected for its industrial weight and permanence.
I specified an industrial spiral bind to replicate the look and feel of a professional artist’s sketchbook, providing 180-degree flat-lay functionality.
Editorial content
Art directed the layout for photographers Dimitri Coste and Pierre Belhassen, creating a visual flow that bridges the grit of Los Angeles with the heritage of Cognac.
Narrative photography
I selected the Cochin typeface specifically for its sharp, elegant serifs, serving as a subtle typographic metaphor for the precision of a tattooing needle.
The “needle” serif
Chapter heads are printed on tracing paper, layering custom geometric patterns - inspired by Campbell’s work - with the artist’s original sketches. This creates a “stencil-transfer” effect that mimics the physical layering of the tattooing process, creating a tactile “studio-to-page” experience.
This detail shows the interaction between the tracing paper overlays and the underlying photography.
Tracing paper overlays
The Hennessy x Scott Campbell lockup was applied via silver hot foil debossing on a heavy-weight black card back cover, anchoring the project in LVMH’s high-luxury production standards.
